Uganda Young Pastor Killed after Religious Debate

An imam who debated a pastor at an interfaith dialogue in Uganda is a suspect in the killing of the church leader after the event on Saturday (July 18). Bernard Mulongo, a 25-year-old pastor, was killed later that night. He is survived by his wife and two children, ages 4 and 7. A pastor present at the interfaith dialogue and debate said Imam Hassan Musa was angry with the Pastor Mulongo after the event, at which two prominent Muslim women publicly converted to Christianity. Afterward Musa warned him, “Bernard, you deserve death for blasphemous deeds and leading our people to that false religion.” Later that night, Pastor Mulongo and another Christian were ambushed by several men. The other man escaped, and Pastor Mulongo's body was found later by his father and another pastor. Imam Musa is a suspect in the killing, and has fled. Police were investigating but have made no arrests.

• Pray that the police will make every effort to find and arrest Hassan Musa and that he and the others involved in the killing will be tried and convicted.

• Pray that the Lord will sustain and comfort the members of Pastor' Mulongo's church and that the Christians will continue to live boldly for Jesus.
