Muslim extremists killed a Christian with swords in eastern Uganda on August 19 for leading Muslims to Christ. In June and July, Muslims had sent threatening messages to Yowabu Sebakaki (52), warning him to stop preaching and converting Muslims or be killed. After leading a discipleship class for new converts at a Christian’s house, he was attacked from behind by Muslims on a motorcycle. Police are searching for the assailants. Yowabu had survived an attack in January after debating Muslim scholars, and he continued to hold open-air meetings in the area. This attack is the latest of many such attacks in the area by Muslims, who make up just 12% of the population of Uganda.

Please pray…

  • Pray that the Lord will comfort Yowabu’s wife and family.

  • Pray that the police will be able to arrest and bring to justice Yowabu’s killers, and that this will deter future attacks.

  • Pray that the new converts will not be discouraged but instead grown strong in their newfound faith.

  • Pray that the Lord will raise up new leaders to spread the gospel and disciple new Christians.
