Church leaders and others in Pakistan lauded the producers and cast of a TV drama for risking their lives to broadcast an unprecedented, national media portrayal of the violent injustice resulting from blasphemy laws. In the final episode of a popular drama series, a jealous man plots a premeditated attack by falsely accusing the lover of the woman he wants as his with an act that insults Islam. The ensuing attack is something that has become commonplace for Pakistanis but not something they are used to seeing broadcast nationally. In slow-motion scenes set to doleful music, a frenzied mob takes justice into their own hands and, without a trial or due diligence, kills the falsely accused “blasphemers.” Many people have praised the powerful message of this scene. Christian rights advocate Lazar Allah Rakha said that the TV drama “initiated an essential conversation that we as a nation can no longer afford to ignore.” The courageous people involved in the drama went so far as to include, at the end of the show, a montage of photos of people killed over false blasphemy accusations, along with images of church buildings and homes of Christians burned in blasphemy-incited riots.

Please pray…

  • Praise the Lord for the courage of the TV show’s writers, director and producers, and pray that the Lord will protect them from the wrath of Muslims who are angry at what they did.

  • Pray that the TV show will cause so much of a stir that the government will begin to take serious measures to end the plague of false blasphemy accusations.

  • Pray that those falsely accused and in prison will be acquitted and set free.
