Christians in Pakistan expressed cautious relief after a massive crackdown last week on a Muslim extremist political party that has done much harm to Christians and other religious minorities in Pakistan. At least one police officer was killed and dozens of others injured, some seriously, in clashes with the members of the radical Islamic TLP political party. Many TLP protesters were also killed, and more than 2,700 people were detained by the police. The government also sealed more than 60 mosques and seminaries affiliated with the party in several cities. In addition, the government said that all bank accounts of the party will be frozen, and that its social media accounts spreading hatred will be taken down. The TLP is behind the drastic increase in false blasphemy accusation cases filed across the country against Christians, as well as attacks on churches and other places of worship and graveyards. The final decision to ban a political party rests with the Supreme Court so the government’s decisions are not final.

Please pray…

  • Praise God that the Pakistani government has decided to take these measures against the TLP.

  • Pray that the Supreme Court will agree with the decision and that the TLP’s power and influence will be drastically reduced.

  • Pray that those who have been falsely accused by the TLP will see their court decisions and cases reviewed by fair and impartial judges.
