Pakistan Christian Mother Jailed on Blasphemy Charge

A Christian woman in Pakistan has been arrested and charged with blasphemy after a Muslim prayer leader accused her of burning passages of Islamic scripture. Shazia Younis, a mother of two children, was arrested after being accused of burning a book of Islamic scripture while burning trash outside her home. Her husband Younis and her two sons have gone into hiding fearing attacks my Muslims. Intent must be shown for a blasphemy conviction, and her Christian lawyer says that the police report does not say that she intentionally burned the Islamic scripture. Her lawyer is also defending two Christian sisters charged with Quran desecration in a nearby village.

Please pray…

  • Pray that the Lord will give Shazia’s lawyer wisdom and guidance as he mediates for her and the two Christian sisters with the authorities.

  • Pray that the Lord will comfort these three women while they are in prison and keep their families safe.

  • Pray that the pressure from the United Nations Human Rights Commission will result in Pakistan repealing or amending the country’s severe and unjust blasphemy laws.
