On November 17, India’s Supreme Court issued notice to the Rajasthan government regarding the state’s “anti-conversion” law, which allows officials to demolish homes and seize property based on mere allegations of forcible conversion. The government must reply to the constitutional challenge to the law within four weeks. The Supreme Court is dealing with challenges to other similar laws from around the country. The anti-conversion law was passed by the Rajasthan state assembly on Sept. 9. Anti-conversion laws have been passed in nine other Indian states, and they mark an unprecedented expansion of state power over religious freedom in India. The Rajasthan law even empowers the state government to freeze a church's financial accounts and impose penalties of 10 million Indian Rupees ($112,713 USD).

Please pray…

  • Praise the Lord that the Supreme Court in India is taking up these cases challenging the constitutionality of the anti-conversion laws.

  • Pray that the Supreme Court rules against these laws and that Christians will be protected from false accusations that result in the loss of all their property and money.

  • Pray that the government will enforce the abolition of these anti-conversion laws after they are declared unconstitutional and punish those states that disobey.
