The first Christian charged under Uttarakhand State’s “anti-conversion” law has become the first to be acquitted under the statute. After a four-year legal battle, Pastor Nandan Singh was cleared of all charges under Uttarakhand Religious Freedom Act. Pastor Singh’s legal ordeal began in October 2021, when he and about 25 Christians had gathered for an all-night prayer at his rented house. About 30-35 Hindus, mainly from nearby villages, barged into his home at about 10am. They caused much damage, but it was the pastor who was arrested. His wife lost their baby because of the stress and the stress and stigma took a toll on Pastor Singh during the past four years. “Though it is fearful to look back at the tough times we have been through as a family,” he said, he wanted to thank God that “He was always faithful and sustained my family needs. This is the result of answered prayers.” The court’s emphasis on constitutional protections for religious practice and the requirement for concrete evidence rather than mere suspicion sets an important standard.
Please pray…
Praise the Lord for the fairness of the judge in this case and the acquittal of Pastor Singh.
Pray that the Lord will heal him and his wife of the trauma they have had to endure for the past four years.
Pray that other false accusations against other pastors and Christians will be treated in the same just manner that Pastor Singh’s case was.
